Mr. Lucas James Reed

Declared for: National Collegiate Representative

Personal Information

Residency:

Lily, KY

Initiating Chapter:

Omicron Psi (Eastern Kentucky University)

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Leadership Roles Held:
  • Chapter President
  • Chapter Secretary
Reason for Joining Sinfonia:

When I began college, I did not want to join any type of fraternity, because I thought they didn't mean much other than partying. One of my closest friends convinced me I should give Phi Mu Alpha a try, that they weren't your average fraternity, but a great group of guys with a love of music and love of each other. I spent the next semester rushing with some of my newfound best friends, and now I get the hype behind such a great group of guys who I consider to be some of the best I've ever met.

Candidacy Information

Office Sought:

National Collegiate Representative

Vision for Sinfonia:

I want Phi Mu Alpha to become the best version of itself that it can be. I hope that collegiate and alumni members are always able to look at our fraternity and be proud of its members and accomplishments. I want collegiate members to experience all the opportunities for companionship, growth, and musical expression throughout their collegiate career. I want alumni to feel like they are still connected to all brothers, always welcome, and always appreciated. I want ΦMA to be more than just a fraternity, but a great group of guys brought together by their love of enjoying music, spreading it, and doing it together. ΦMA is at its best when every brother is at their best, and I want every brother to feel welcome and excited to be a Sinfonian.

Why Are You Running:

I want to run for NCR to help ensure that the collegiate experience is as welcoming and enriching as it can be. Throughout my time as a collegiate member, both the National Emergency and COVID-19 severely limited how my chapter was able to operate, both on our own and with our province. I want to help facilitate growth as we hopefully are able to move forward in the coming years. I want collegiate members to know that their voices are heard on a national level, that their needs can be met, and their questions can be answered. I don't expect that we can fix everything immediately, but I want to be a voice for collegiate brothers all across the country, from different places, backgrounds, and situations, so that all ΦMA Chapters prosper.

Qualifications for Office:

I feel that at the time I was initiated, Spring '19, I caught a glimpse of normalcy before things began to go awry. I got to experience events, province workshops, and brotherly camaraderie. I also experienced a national crisis, quarantine, brothers disillusioned by a lack of guidance, and the closure of a fellow chapter in my province firsthand. As the chapter secretary, and later president, I worked to make sure my own chapter stayed afloat, to make sure my fellow brothers retained the fire we all had when we first rushed. I've come to gain, what I believe, is an experience that can help me help other brothers never face some of these struggles again. I know that it will take gumption and devotion to help chapters get back on track.
