Emorja Roberson is a pianist, conductor, composer, and vocalist in classical and gospel music. Roberson graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance (2013) and Master of Sacred Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Notre Dame (2017).

As a doctoral student, Roberson hosted the University of Notre Dame’s first Black History Month concert, which featured artists in jazz, classical, and gospel, and included performers: Callie Day, Isaac Cates, J.J. Wright, and Alex Mansour. In June 2019, he made his national debut on Season 9 of BET’s Sunday Best competition as a top 20 contestant, and in March 2020, his recent composition, “Seek Ye First” from The Evening Musicale (2019), was featured on Sirius XM 64 (Kirk Franklin’s Praise).

4 - Very Good: I am recognized as a very good performer for both solo and ensemble work. I have performed or am capable of performing solo passages on my instrument. My range and tone meet the expectations for excellent performers. My musicianship is above average, and as an ensemble participant, I believe I will be well-suited for participation in a national-level ensemble.

3 - Good: I am respected as a good ensemble performer. I do not usually perform solos in ensembles, but my range and tone meet the expectations for good performers. My musicianship is above average, and as an ensemble participant, I believe I will be a good section performer in a national-level ensemble.

2 - Limited: I am proficient on this instrument and perform on it occasionally. If called upon to perform on this instrument, I am confident I can prepare all the parts for advanced big band music, but I would not be well-suited for exposed passages or solos.

My musicianship is above average, and as an ensemble participant, I believe I will be well-suited for participation in a national-level ensemble.

3 - Good: I am respected as a good choral musician. I do not usually perform solos in ensembles, but techniques such as blending, dynamic range, and diction come easily to me and meet the expectations for good performers. My musicianship is above average, and as an ensemble participant, I believe I will be a good section performer in a national-level ensemble. I am prepared to, if needed, learn voice parts beyond what my traditional vocal role may be, and possess the appropriate range and skill to do so on my own.

2 - Limited: I am proficient as a choral singer and participate occasionally in local or non-auditioned college ensembles. If called upon to participate in this ensemble, I could comfortably prepare all of the vocal parts for my voice part without learning aids, but would not be well-suited to learning other voice parts or solos.

I furthermore understand that I must register for the Full Registration package for the National Convention in order to retain my spot in the ensemble.
